About us

Tanzania Development Action (TADA) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, operating under the umbrella of the Machame Nkweshoo Cultural Tourism Enterprise (MCTE), formerly known as Machame Rural Action (MRA). Initially founded in 2008, we have since evolved, re-registering in 2021 as TADA, with a renewed focus on environmental conservation and community empowerment. Our work is deeply rooted in protecting Tanzania’s rich biodiversity, particularly around Mount Kilimanjaro, while promoting sustainable livelihoods through agroforestry, education, and environmental restoration.

Where we work

Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Our efforts are currently concentrated around the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, specifically within the Machame community. However, our ambition is to expand these initiatives to other regions in Tanzania, where environmental degradation poses a significant threat to local ecosystems and livelihoods. Our tree nurseries and reforestation projects serve as models for sustainable land management, helping communities restore their lands while building resilience to climate change.

Projects in Summary

At TADA, our work spans several critical areas

Tree Planting

We have a strong focus on reforestation, particularly around Mount Kilimanjaro, aiming to reverse deforestation and restore biodiversity. We have successfully planted thousands of trees and aim to expand our efforts across the region.

Women Empowerment:

TADA is committed to empowering women by engaging them in tree planting and sustainable agricultural projects. This ensures they play a key role in environmental restoration while benefiting from economic opportunities.

Agroforestry

Through agroforestry projects, we work with farmers to integrate trees into their farming systems. This helps improve crop yields, protect soil health, and generate alternative sources of income.

Environmental Education

We educate children and the broader community on the importance of conservation through tree planting, school gardens, and sustainability lessons integrated into school curriculums.

Helping Impoverished Orphans

Many orphaned children in Africa are either living alone on the streets or in the forest. The fortunate ones end up in dormitories where 30-40 children share a single room filled with bunk beds, surviving on limited, innutritious meals.
