Tanzania Development Action (TADA) was founded by a dedicated group of women passionate about environmental conservation and community empowerment. Originally established in 2008 as Machame Rural Action (MRA), TADA began as a grassroots initiative operating under the Machame Nkweshoo Cultural Tourism Enterprise (MCTE). This early phase focused on preserving the natural beauty of the Kilimanjaro region through tree planting and supporting women in the community.
During its time as MRA, the organisation successfully planted over 5,000 trees in the Kilimanjaro area, helping to combat deforestation and raise awareness about environmental conservation. Despite initial success, progress slowed between 2015 and 2019 due to lack of consistent follow-up on key projects and .
In 2020, the organisation underwent a transformation, rebranding as Tanzania Development Action (TADA) to reflect its broader, revitalised mission. The transition marked a new chapter, expanding beyond Kilimanjaro to promote environmental conservation and community education across Tanzania. Today, TADA is committed to planting 70 million trees nationwide while continuing to empower women, children, and youth to lead sustainable change in their communities.
